NHS Blood and Transplant People First

To help people save more for their retirement, the government now requires employers, including NHSBT, to enrol their workers into a workplace pension scheme.  This is called Auto-enrolment.

Auto-enrolment assessment from May 2013 onwards

New members of staff, who are entitled to, will automatically join the NHS Pension Scheme (NHSPS) on commencement.  However membership is voluntary and you can opt to leave at any time.

For easy access to information about the NHS Pension Scheme go to the NHS Business Services Authority member hub.

If you are not entitled to join the NHS Pension Scheme then you will be assessed and may be auto-enrolled into the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST).

For information about the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) go to the NEST website.

Joining the NHS Pension Scheme

To join the NHS Pension Scheme complete the NHS Pension Joining form* and the NHS Pension Scheme Equal Opportunity Form. The date of joining will be the first day of the pay period following the receipt of the application.  University Hospital Birmingham (UHB) will advise if there is any doubt of an employee's right to rejoin the NHSPS.
